Folk On The Dock 2018

On Saturday, I performed at Folk On The Dock, a music festival held at The Royal Albert  Dock in Liverpool.  I played on 2 stages with my band, on The Stan Ambrose Stage and The Liverpool Acoustic Stage and we had so much fun! Here are some photos from the day thanks to Fat Badger Photography for coming along!

Both sets went so well and I feel like Im really starting to enjoy being on stage again after a long time off!  The song that got the most reaction of the day was definitely Cowboy Song, I definitely plan to record it ASAP!

If you were in the audience, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Don’t forget, you can watch the preview fo my next single ‘Let It Fly’ here…

And pre-save on Spotify here…

Concert Window- Resceduled!

The concert window that I had scheduled for Sunday evening has, unfortunately, had to be cancelled due to a spell of tonsilitis!

I love doing concert window gigs and not being able to sing really gets me down! I’m always singing from morning to night and it’s my “day job” as I’m a singing teacher, which I absolutely love!

I’m sat in a walk in centre as I write this so hopefully will get some antibiotics and be on the road to recovery as soon as possible. I’ll post another performance date soon!

Don’t forget that the EP is OUT NOW on iTunes, Spotify etc and you can get a CD for just £5 as a special offer for 2 weeks!

These Little Words: Available on CD!

Screen Shot 2017-09-02 at 10.05.34

Yesterday marked the end of the Kickstarter campaign I started in order to raise funds for the printing of the EP on CD and I’m ecstatic to say that we did it! I exceeded my goal of £350 and raised £371!

Today I woke up extra early and sent off the art work and masters so (all being well!) I should be holding ‘These Little Words’ in my hands in a few weeks! I am so EXCITED! I was quite emotional sending the files off so just think of how I’ll react when the delivery arrives!

Massive thank you to those I have been talking to all morning when I couldn’t make my mind up on the images I wanted, you deserve a medal (a CD will have to do ha!).

It’s all happening and I still can’t believe the experiences I’ve had so far this year.  This is only the beginning for me though, I’m more determined than ever to get my music heard by as many people as possible…

Folk On The Dock 2017

Well, what a day I had yesterday at Folk On The Dock!  Probably my biggest performance with the biggest audience so far on this journey and I absolutely loved it!  When I started performing again after a hiatus of many years, my nerves always over shadowed any other emotions. But slowly and surely (I’m trying not to jinx myself) I’m falling in love with the performance side of things again, even when performing my own songs! I absolutely loved every second of yesterday’s performance and we drew a crowd who really seemed to get in to the style and feel of my material.

After arriving at The Albert Dock, I received a programme and thought it was really cool to see my name in the programme. Of course I sent a picture of it to my Mum, who lives in Co Durham!

All in all I played 7 song, which was the perfect timing of 25 mins exactly, my allotted time!

1. Can’t We Just Be Friends

2. One Reason

3. Love You Right

4. Cowboy Song

5. He Wasn’t Looking At Me

6. (Your Song) Out Of My Head

7. Half Way There
My favorite song to sing was surprisingly, Cowboy Song as it’s pure country and fast! I felt really at home singing it which is not my usual preference, as some of you may know, I favour emotional ballad songs.

Here’s a snippet from my instagram account (@katieellen_music)

Then there’s Love You Right, a song I wish I had written sooner so it could have been on the EP! I hadn’t given it much of a look in until the mega talented Alun Parry played it for me in rehearsal. He played it exactly how I heard it in my head, now I want to record it desperately! Maybe my next single, keep your eyes peeled! Here’s us playing it live yesterday…

I’ll be posting more clips throughout the next week on my Facebook and YouTube so keep updated and follow me on my social medias!

After, I had finished my set, I headed to the Gin Tin in the courtyard and enjoyed an amazing cocktail (even got a discount because the owner enjoyed my music, winner!)

All in all, a day to remember and a step in the right direction for me as a performer as well as a songwriter! At the moment I feel like I’ve got a song to write so watch this space for new material!

My Kickstarter is at 77% with less than £100 to raise so please consider pre ordering the EP here…

Pledge Here!
This time next week my EP will be available on iTunes, Spotify and most digital music marketplaces!

So exciting!

Thanks for reading! And thanks for the support so far!

The Nashville Diaries

On Thursday 8th June 2017 I embarked on a journey to Nashville to fulfil a life long dream of playing my own songs over there.  It started as most journeys do… with a beer at the airport! Ok, I bought 2 because the queue was long ha!

Screen Shot 2017-06-13 at 22.13.55.png

While waiting to board, I did a little journalling and tried to chill out although by this point, the nerves were kicking in.  At this point, I realised I’d forgotten to burn CD’s to give out!

After a 6 hour flight, I arrived at JFK Airport, New York.  The Big Apple!  I will never forget seeing the New York City skyline from the window as we landed.  I have to visit New York soon! 3 more hours in the air to Nashville!

Screen Shot 2017-06-13 at 22.14.23.png

I arrived in Nashville at 4pm (local time) and as I walked through the airport, the excitement was rising.  There was live music in the bar, in the airport! Country music was playing over the speaker system, yep, it was Nashville alright! I got an Uber and headed straight for my apartment for the weekend.  My legs felt like they hadn’t moved in a week so I took a walk around the area to get something to eat.  A cobb salad and Cheetos and lots of water! Hydration is key to good vocals!!  I journaled a bit more and wrote about how I would definitely stay awake as late as I could so I wouldn’t wake up at 4am the next morning, then I took a shower.  5 minutes later… zzzzz!

4am, I woke up (ha!) I walked down to the supermarket again but it wasn’t open so I got a coffee from Subway! I was very surprised at how much I missed home.  That sounds so horrible but I’ve never been one to get home sick and love travelling alone, not that I don’t love holidays with my husband or family! Ever since I was little, I’ve coped well with being away.  I came to the conclusion that it is because I was out of my comfort zone so I was craving familiarity! The nerves were almost definitely setting in. By 11:30am my hair and make-up were done and I was on my way to Downtown Nashville.

I arrived at PLUSH lounge, my venue and waited to go on.  At 3:40pm my time arrived and I did my set.  Unfortunately, my guitar was playing up and I experienced a lot of feedback but I made it work for me.  I think I sang well and it was an absolutely amazing feeling being up on the stage in Nashville!  As always, I was hard on myself and I was so disappointed about my guitar but it all comes with the territory!  They offered me another set on Saturday.  After I’d finished up at PLUSH, I headed to The Johnny Cash Museum for a coffee.  Then, realising I hadn’t eaten since 6am, I headed to the more remote bars Downtown.  During CMA fest, Nashville is so busy, like you cant walk straight without bumping in to someone! I found one and sat down to eat some fries and have a Jack Daniels Honey of course! And there was live music so I was happy to sit there for a few hours and you couldn’t get more country than sitting at a bar with my guitar, drinking Jack Daniels!

Screen Shot 2017-06-13 at 22.15.33.png

The next day after waking up at 4am again! I headed back down to PLUSH but decided, in the end, I would rather not play when my guitar wasn’t playing properly. A decision I definitely do not regret, I am almost certain that I will get another chance to play over there.  I will make it happen, but first I want to gain as much experience as I can playing to country audiences.  I had a great day exploring CMA Fest and even got to watch a show in the Ryman Auditorium, or the mother church as it’s well know in the country music community.  Then I headed back to my apartment.

After shopping in Target (my new favourite shop in the world!), packing my suitcase which, after the shopping trip was tricky to close, I went to sleep for my early flight back to Manchester.

The whole experience was so unreal,  I never thought that I’d get the chance to play in Nashville, especially so early in my musical journey.  It’s an amazing place and in only a couple of days, I feel like I know so much more about the industry and the people in it!  I learned what my next steps are in my music career and how to get my songs heard!  Although the only negative was that it was very overwhelming, CMA Fest is absolutely crazy!  I’m taking a week or two to step back and let the experience sink in  and then it’s full throttle to the EP launch in July!  One more track to go and it’s finished!

One week to go…

Just one week to go until my single hits iTunes, Spotify etc!

So what have I been up to?

I’ve been spreading the word via twitter, Facebook and any other way people will listen! I’ve had some good responses too.  #musichouruk mentioned me in their #musichourloves vlog and I’ve been played on a few internet radio stations which is super amazing!  My main goal for the next few weeks is to get “gig ready” and to help with that I’m doing an online show ( on Sunday 30th April! I hope you can join me for it!

So, now I’m looking for people to provide reviews for the single, whether its one sentence or a whole story, I want to hear your feedback! So get in touch via email,

This is a short blog as there’s SO much to do before the release but I hope you enjoyed it anyway!!

In the mean time, heres an acoustic jam version of my song, “She’ll Wait”

How did I end up here?

Welcome to my first blog!

I thought I’d start by telling you my story, how I got here and where I want to go.

Well, I’ve been writing music since I was a teenager.  In fact, I only started writing because it was required for GCSE Music course, I had just started playing the guitar and I ended up with a song called “Never Stopped Loving You”… yes, teenage angst at it’s finest! I thought it was lost forever but thanks to iCloud, I’ve just listened to it, wow (ha!).  From that one song, I couldn’t stop!  The next song, recorded by the wonderfully supportive Nigel Paice (now presenting his own radio show, << check it out!) and available to listen to here…

From then, I continued writing and performing but it never felt like the right time to release any of my music properly!  I mean, to me, my writing is a form of therapy. Most of the time I write about real situations I have been in or I have witnessed.  It is so personal, soul baring, emotional!  So, for the past 5 years, I’ve been focused on teaching singing, an amazing job where I get to pass on my love of music and the voice.  At the end of 2016, I had made up my mind, it was time to release my music to the world!

I recorded “Can’t We Just Be Friends” with a fantastic producer in February and now, the hard part begins.  Getting people to listen, review, recommend etc.  I’m very lucky to have some very positive people in my life right now (Sara @lostinmuzic < check out her blogs!) who have picked me up when I felt I was in over my head.

So what are my plans for the future? My main focus now is on the release of my debut single “Can’t We Just Be Friends” on 1st May on iTunes, Spotify and many more platforms.  I’m also looking to start doing a few shows in the summer and releasing an E.P. once I’ve got a few more songs recorded and of course write MORE! This is one of the scariest, craziest things I’ve done in my life and I’m enjoying every minute! Even those minutes I feel like a deer in headlights!

If you want to keep up to date with my journey you can follow my on Twitter @katieellenmusic or Facebook or you can email me to say hi Theres also a preview of the single at the bottom of this blog! 🙂
